W is for Weather!

Us British people love to moan about the weather, or start small conversations about it probably because it is so unpredictable, one day its sunny, the next its raining, or both on the same day! Make your mind up! I want the sun back! :(

V is for Vaisakhi!

Vaisakhi is an ancient harvest festival celebrated across the northern Indian subcontinent, especially in the Punjab region by the Sikh nation as this day commemorates the establishment of the Khalsa (Sikhism).Vaisakhi is a major event. It is a religious as well as harvest festival and New Year Day also. Sikhs usually celebrate the day on the 13th/14th of April by going to the temple and taking part in Nagar Kirtan which is processions through the streets (nagar meaning town, Kirtan meaning hymns) which forms an important part of Sikh culture and religious celebrations. The processions are led by traditionally dressed Panj Piaras (Beloved Five), who are baptized on that day.

U is for UFO!

I remember when I was a kid, my brother pointed out this ball of light at night that was moving side to side, we were so convinced that it was something of a supernatural that we kept an eye on it through the patio door, for about 45minutes, it was probably a star but we were naive! But there must be some kind of life out there on the other planets, wouldn't make sense if out of all the planets only Earth has life?!

T is for Typewriter!

Remember these badboys! This is what people used to use to type letters, documents and so on before computers and laptops, oh how things have changed! I remember when my dad bought a second hand typewriter, it was so heavy and big! But I was so excited to be able to type 'once upon a time' stories that I was ready to 'publish' my own book. I'm sure I've still got the front cover of the book that i drew, in my folder somewhere, it was about a talking doll..sounds familiar? I loved the sound it made when typing and when you push the carriage return lever that made a ding sound! Also still like the authentic typeface that it created, could do with a typewriter now actually!

R is for Rock 'n' Roll baby!

I love a bit of rock 'n' roll now and again. This piece of design isn't really a doodle but a project that I did at university when studying Graphic Design. We had to visualize a graphic designers quote and I chose David Carson's quote (who I was very much inspired by) 'Graphic design will save the world right after rock and roll does'. His use of typography and design was very rock n roll in the sense that he broke a lot of rules therefore his designs had a lot of attitude and edge to it! So when i thought of rock 'n' roll, the King of Rock came in my mind so I bought the iconic wig and glasses and took a photo of myself!

Q is for Queen!

To mark 60 years of the Queen's reign the Diamond Jubilee will take place this year. The celebrations will centre around an extended weekend on 2nd, 3rd, 4th and 5th June. Aswell as having the bank holiday on the 4th of June, we also have the 5th June off thanks to Queenie wooo!!

The Queen came to the throne on 6th, February 1952 and her coronation took place on the 2nd, June 1953. She celebrated her Silver Jubilee (25 years) in 1977 and her Golden Jubilee (50 years) in 2002. The Royal family have traveled around the UK, also visited my city, Leicester! It was a exciting day at work even if we only did see the car, that the Queen and Kate was in, drive past our office! I know my drawing doesn't look much like the Queen but at least i tried!

G is for Grandma!

My dearest grandma! She must be in her mid 80s but i don't think shes that sure how old she is herself. Such a loving and affectionate woman who has been suffering from schizophrenia since her 40s! But to me she is no different to any other grandma out there as that's how I have seen her my whole life. Shes lived in her own bubble for half of her life, thinking that we are all going to move to India anytime soon and live there forever, also thinks that i'm married with kids, when I correct her she just laughs!

Friday 6 April 2012

Yes thats me, we got carried away and painted paper plates, I went for the simple design so that I didn't have to concentrate at 10:18pm, as I couldn't keep up with the energetic kids!
