Sunny Sunday!

Baldeep with the picture she drew of me!

Baldeep's portrait of me!

Its a sunny Sunday, and i spent it with family friends, relaxing in the garden, on the hammock..but then my family friends 10-year-old daughter wanted to draw, so we drew flowers at first then she decided to draw me, whilst asking funny questions like 'how old are you?'..me:'25'...which she replies to 'huhh you should be married with kids! :0 lol and then her younger sister who is 5, kept looking at my stomach and asking if i was having a baby! lol got to love them though! Was a bit worn out afterwards with the questioning of why is that there and whats that doing there and how long have you had that? But i like her funny drawing and she also wrote that i like all things quirky, so i thought this is going on my blog! Not sure about the barbie girl on my t-shirt though :S

Sabrina!

Its been a while since I last updated my blog, so I thought i'll post a portrait of my cousin which I designed in Illustrator. Its an A2 poster for her 21st bday which is on the 29th of May but the lucky sod has gone to New York so she will get it after she comes back! I hope she likes it...well she better do! :)

W is for Weather!

Us British people love to moan about the weather, or start small conversations about it probably because it is so unpredictable, one day its sunny, the next its raining, or both on the same day! Make your mind up! I want the sun back! :(

V is for Vaisakhi!

Vaisakhi is an ancient harvest festival celebrated across the northern Indian subcontinent, especially in the Punjab region by the Sikh nation as this day commemorates the establishment of the Khalsa (Sikhism).Vaisakhi is a major event. It is a religious as well as harvest festival and New Year Day also. Sikhs usually celebrate the day on the 13th/14th of April by going to the temple and taking part in Nagar Kirtan which is processions through the streets (nagar meaning town, Kirtan meaning hymns) which forms an important part of Sikh culture and religious celebrations. The processions are led by traditionally dressed Panj Piaras (Beloved Five), who are baptized on that day.

U is for UFO!

I remember when I was a kid, my brother pointed out this ball of light at night that was moving side to side, we were so convinced that it was something of a supernatural that we kept an eye on it through the patio door, for about 45minutes, it was probably a star but we were naive! But there must be some kind of life out there on the other planets, wouldn't make sense if out of all the planets only Earth has life?!

T is for Typewriter!

Remember these badboys! This is what people used to use to type letters, documents and so on before computers and laptops, oh how things have changed! I remember when my dad bought a second hand typewriter, it was so heavy and big! But I was so excited to be able to type 'once upon a time' stories that I was ready to 'publish' my own book. I'm sure I've still got the front cover of the book that i drew, in my folder somewhere, it was about a talking doll..sounds familiar? I loved the sound it made when typing and when you push the carriage return lever that made a ding sound! Also still like the authentic typeface that it created, could do with a typewriter now actually!

Saturday 21 April 2012

S is for Sisters!!

What would I do without my sisters! My best friends for life, who will always be there to listen and give advice and will never judge! We have shared joy, sorrow and good times! Today I spent my day with them both and it certainly was good times! Love them!! :)

He needs to be recognized goddammit!

R is for Rock 'n' Roll baby!

I love a bit of rock 'n' roll now and again. This piece of design isn't really a doodle but a project that I did at university when studying Graphic Design. We had to visualize a graphic designers quote and I chose David Carson's quote (who I was very much inspired by) 'Graphic design will save the world right after rock and roll does'. His use of typography and design was very rock n roll in the sense that he broke a lot of rules therefore his designs had a lot of attitude and edge to it! So when i thought of rock 'n' roll, the King of Rock came in my mind so I bought the iconic wig and glasses and took a photo of myself!

Q is for Queen!

To mark 60 years of the Queen's reign the Diamond Jubilee will take place this year. The celebrations will centre around an extended weekend on 2nd, 3rd, 4th and 5th June. Aswell as having the bank holiday on the 4th of June, we also have the 5th June off thanks to Queenie wooo!!

The Queen came to the throne on 6th, February 1952 and her coronation took place on the 2nd, June 1953. She celebrated her Silver Jubilee (25 years) in 1977 and her Golden Jubilee (50 years) in 2002. The Royal family have traveled around the UK, also visited my city, Leicester! It was a exciting day at work even if we only did see the car, that the Queen and Kate was in, drive past our office! I know my drawing doesn't look much like the Queen but at least i tried!

N is for Neighbours!

'Neighbours, everybody needs good neighbours, with a little understanding
you can find the perfect blend, that's when good neighbours become good friends'

...but seriously it helps a lot to know that you have good neighbours that you can depend on when needed and where you can help each other and become good friends!

M is for Magazine!

As I am a magazine designer, I thought why not include my graphic design work! I design for a bi-weekly, lifestyle magazine called Reflect, which covers a wide variety of topics which reflects today's lifestyle and culture. I hope that our readers look just as intrigued as this fella when reading the magazine!

OK I've been a bit naughty and didn't blog the letter L yesterday as it was all go-go-go for me and i just didn't get the time :s but at least i have done it! I was talking about my blog at work and i asked what shall i doodle for L? Then my workmate was like..'hellooo us two' then i was like oh yeh Laura and Lucy! My pals from work, Laura is on the left who is a features writer for Reflect and Aspire magazine ( also loves the colour yellow, Supernatural and Winnie the Pooh) and Lucy is on the right, a graphic designer for our sister company, Aspire ( who loves the colour pink, athletics and apple juice!)

I is for Italy!

Ciao Signore e Signori!! One of the places that I would like to visit is Rome! The city is one of Europe's and the world's most successful city "brands", both in terms of reputation and assets. I want to visit the Vatican Museums and the Colosseum and experience the Italian culture and cuisine and eat freshly made pizza in its homeland! Feel hungry now :p

Monday 9 April 2012

H is for Hairdresser!

I dont cut my hair as often as i should, maybe once every season? :s But when i do, ill like to get half the lenght of my hair chopped off! and then i feel refreshed, 'brand new', why does a new hair do, make you feel like a new you?

Saturday 7 April 2012

G is for Grandma!

My dearest grandma! She must be in her mid 80s but i don't think shes that sure how old she is herself. Such a loving and affectionate woman who has been suffering from schizophrenia since her 40s! But to me she is no different to any other grandma out there as that's how I have seen her my whole life. Shes lived in her own bubble for half of her life, thinking that we are all going to move to India anytime soon and live there forever, also thinks that i'm married with kids, when I correct her she just laughs!

Friday 6 April 2012

Yes thats me, we got carried away and painted paper plates, I went for the simple design so that I didn't have to concentrate at 10:18pm, as I couldn't keep up with the energetic kids!

Easter Fun!

I finger-painted eggs with my cousin, niece and nephew, i felt like a kid again!
I love my smiley face egg!

F is for Friday!

Its Good Friday and I spent it celebrating my cousins 19th birthday! Hip hip hooray!
